!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
i wonder who mercedes pissed off
still...having to run the same engine mode in the race as in quali could be interesting....should put the field closer together at least
or...it could suck the fun out of qualifying...who knows...find out at spa i guess

Interesting. In the old days, you didn’t have a party mode, you had an entirely different engine you’d drop in for qualifying that would be trashed after just a few laps. I guess qualifying engine maps are really no different. Still, it might help make qualifying more interesting. Clearly this will affect Mercedes, but I’m sure others have qualifying modes too.
If we’re not careful, though, we will be back to IROC.

I expect many more of these rules to be brought forth until Mercedes signs the Concord Agreement.

Can't they change ending modes mid race? It's seems like they're constantly adjusting available power during the race.

They’re clamping down on that, too.

I have a feeling this is one tweak Liberty Media is doing as they look ahead to a post merc/scud era. Merc hasn’t signed on to the accord an Ferrari’s weakness now provides a taste of what F1 could look like without one of the big 2 dominating. Maybe they are thinking that a more level playing field is better for business...and this rule change, along with many other subtle tweaks, will either level the performance or drive merc/Ferrari out. Which achieves the same thing. As much as I hate to say it, there’s many compelling reasons for F1 to become a spec race.
What other series has had two constructors dominate for so long? Subaru left WRC, Audi left prototypes....it happens.

Me too, unfortunately. As much as I dislike Mercedes dominance, I side with them on this one - Ferrari should lose their bonus payout, or at least have it cut to below $10mil. IIRC, their heritage bonus or whatever it’s called is in the range of $50-100mil so doing so would give each team $5-10mil more to work with. Along with the new already more level payouts these should really even out budgets to sustainability.

they can...or well...maybe they could now

Subaru only won 3 titles in WRC and stayed 11 years after their last title and left because they were not getting anywhere.

Honestly, the more rule changes they make that puts more pressure on the driver to just DRIVE, the better.
It creates more opportunities for the drivers to mess up, or be absolute heroes. Wh ich creates better races.
